Mismatch between soil nutrient deficiencies and fertilizer applications: Implications for yield responses in Ethiopia

چکیده
Lack of accurate information about soil nutrient deficiencies coupled with limited access to appropriate fertilizers could lead mismatch between (requirements) and fertilizer applications. Such anomalies mismatches are likely have important implications for agricultural productivity. In this article we use experimental (spectral analysis) data from Ethiopia examine farmers’ response its yield responses. We find that macronutrient (nitrogen phosphorus) is not always consistent agronomic recommendations. For example, farmers in our sample applying nitrogen soils lacking phosphorus, potentially due lack on or rural markets. On the other hand, respond perceivably poor-quality acidic by higher amount phosphorus fertilizers. further show such applications yield-reducing. Those matching their application enjoy additional gains. Marginal associated (phosphorus) increases deficiency soils. Similarly, yield-enhancing. These findings suggest may explain heterogeneities marginal returns chemical observed low adoption rates sub-Saharan Africa.

Global Soil Nutrient Depletion and Yield Reduction
Nutrient depletion in soils adversely affects soil quality and reduces crop yield and consequently poses a potential threat to global food security and agricultural sustainability. With an emphasis on human-induced nutrient depletion, this paper described the causality among soil nutrient depletion, soil quality, crop production, socio-economic variables, and environmental condition. Then, glob...
متن کاملSoil Nutrient Composition in Afromontane Forests of Northern Ethiopia
Deforestation in the northern highlands of Ethiopia has left 35,000 forest fragments ranging in size from 3 to 300 ha (Bongers et al 2006). Deforestation produces edges which increase disturbance within the forest such as decreased water availability and increased light. To determine the degree of these edge effects and the nutrient status of these forests, I analyzed the nutrient composition o...
متن کاملUncovering miRNAs involved in crosstalk between nutrient deficiencies in Arabidopsis
Integrating carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and sulfur (S) metabolism is essential for the growth and development of living organisms. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play key roles in regulating nutrient metabolism in plants. However, how plant miRNAs mediate crosstalk between different nutrient metabolic pathways is unclear. In this study, deep sequencing of Arabidopsis thaliana small RNAs was used to reveal mi...
متن کاملResponses of Cotton Yield and Meloidogyne incognita Soil Populations to Soil Applications of Aldicarb and 1,3-D in Florida.
In four tests conducted in loamy-sand soils in northern Florida, cotton lint yield increased and post-harvest soil populations of Meloidogyne incognita were more effectively suppressed by 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D) than aldicarb when both nematicides were evaluated over a range of recommended rates. Significant positive relationships existed between lint yield and rates of 1,3-D in three tests...
متن کاملSoil Fertility Status and Numass Fertilizer Recommendation of Typic Hapluusterts in the Northern Highlands of Ethiopia
Nutrient depletion is one of the major causes that contribute to decline in soil productivity in the highlands of Ethiopia. It is generally a reversible constraint as long as soil test based fertilizer application is in place. However, Ethiopian subsistence agriculture has suffered for years due to lack of proper knowledge to combat nutrient depletion. To date, blanket application is the tradit...
